About the Role:
Our clinet is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Project Accountant to their civil engineering team in San Francisco. This role is integral to managing the financial aspects of multiple ongoing projects, with a strong emphasis on project management, billing, and cost control. You will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and senior leadership to ensure financial accuracy, timely invoicing, and smooth project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the financial aspects of assigned civil engineering projects from inception to completion.
Prepare, review, and process monthly billing for multiple projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with contract terms.
Track and analyze project budgets, forecasts, and costs to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget.
Collaborate with project managers to resolve billing issues, contract discrepancies, and budget concerns.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date project financial records, including work-in-progress (WIP) reports.
Review and verify subcontractor invoices and expenses against contracts and purchase orders.
Assist in preparing project financial reports for management and clients.
Support month-end closing processes, including accruals and revenue recognition.
Monitor and track change orders, contract modifications, and additional service agreements.
Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and contractual requirements.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
3+ years of project accounting experience, preferably in civil engineering, construction, or related industries.
Strong understanding of project management principles and billing processes.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with project accounting software (e.g., Deltek Vision, BST, CMiC, or similar) is a plus.
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams and manage competing priorities.
Strong communication skills for interacting with internal teams and clients.
